Lunch on the River

Mike Fink's Restaurant
Across from Cincinnati, Ohio
on the
Ohio River
At Flood Stage
February 23, 2000

Mike Fink's restaurant is housed in an old steamboat that is listed
on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Our view was of downtown Cincinnati and Cinergy Field, formerly Riverfront Stadium.
We sat only a short couple of feet above water level as we enjoyed an elegant lunch of shrimp and salmon.

Barges filled with coal moved down the Ohio.

Empty barges moved up the Ohio.

There were huge logs and whole trees floating down the river.  Although not common
this far inland, seagulls were seen sitting on the river calmly floating toward the Gulf of Mexico.
Seagulls follow ships upstream into the inland waterways.

This man took advantage of the swift current.

From our window seat at the water's edge we watched the Shirley B move to the upstream
side of the restaurant to clear debris.

The powerful wake of the tug cleared logs and other debris from alongside the restaurant headboat .

This is the restaurant's gangway just before we walked across it to return to our car.
It seems we finished our meal just in time.
